Character Studies

When I set out to work with a character study, I do not realize what type of emotion I will evoke - in myself or the viewer. The forces that give expression through us humans are endless and provocative. The world is depicted through a glance or smile. As Krishnamurti has said, "You are the world."

Tagore Rabindranath Tagore has been an inspiration to me from early teens on. I have chosen only black and white pencil to give visual expression to his words due to the mystery he holds. I also liked the long, narrow configuration - somehow it seemed to express this man's spirit.

Literary Illustration Loving the written word and the sweetness of time spent reading, I have been inspired to make art based on my interpretations of poems and prayers of others and my own writing. Solace Series: 9-11 The Solace Series stemmed from 9-11. The subject lead me to consider how we give ourselves solace and take care of ourselves in times of sadness and stress.
